About the role: We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the team behind Respondology's most technically ambitious work within platform infrastructure and the Respond product (LLM-powered social responses). This is a role built for someone who can step in, establish clarity quickly, and drive a small, high-output team to ship consistently.
You'll manage five engineers across multiple domains, with headcount growth planned before you start. You don't need to be the deepest expert in every area, but you do need to earn trust fast, build team rhythm where it's missing, and be a strong partner to Product. The VP of Engineering will work closely with you; your job is to multiply the team's output, not shadow it.
What you'll do:
Own sprint planning, backlog refinement, and delivery accountability across your teams
Coach engineers on craft, ownership, and growth with direct, specific feedback
Be the primary engineering voice in planning and roadmap conversations with Product
Provide light hands-on support for prototypes, bug fixes, and performance work when the team needs a boost
Surface and resolve blockers fast; escalate the ones that require VP-level involvement
Reduce single points of failure and knowledge silos as the team grows
What we're looking for:
4+ years of engineering management experience with a track record of on-time, high-quality delivery
Experience managing engineers working on production AI/ML or LLM-integrated systems
Strong prioritization instincts, be comfortable making calls with incomplete information
Clear, direct communicator across written, verbal, async, and sync contexts
Demonstrated ability to build productive, trusted relationships with Product counterparts
Enough technical depth to understand what your team is building, ask the right questions, and spot when something's off
Startup experience with high ownership expectations is a strong plus
What we offer:
Competitive salary + equity
100% remote, with optional access to our Boulder, CO office
Flex PTO, generous holidays, and a full week off between Christmas and New Year's
Multiple healthcare options including FSA/HSA plans
401k (traditional and Roth) with company match, immediately vested
Fully paid family and parental leave (12 weeks per year)
Twice-yearly team offsites
Compensation:
$175,000-$225,000 DOE + bonus + equity
What to expect:
This is a startup. The pace is fast and the playbook is still being written. If you do your best work inside a fully built structure, this probably isn't the right fit. If the idea of building that structure sounds exciting, we'd love to meet you.
What matters:
We recognize the value in how different backgrounds and unique experiences shape our ways of thinking. These perspectives spark the conversations that enrich our culture and, in turn, improve our products. We invite anyone who feels they are qualified to apply and join a team united by the drive to build something that matters.
