Fractional CEO Advisor — Turning Practicing Attorneys Into Business Owners (Remote)
Company: How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM) Location: 100% Remote (Must reside in AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, TX, VA, or WA) Position Type: Full-Time | W-2 Employee of HTM Compensation: $110,000 Base Salary + Performance Compensation | $182,000+ On-Target Earnings | Elite Benefits Bundle
This Is a Full-Time, Salaried Role Serving Up to 75 Law Firm Owners on a Fractional Basis
This is a full-time, salaried Fractional CEO Advisor position — not a 1099 consulting opportunity, and not a traditional single-company executive role either. You'll join HTM as a full-time employee and serve as a hands-on CEO Advisor to a dedicated roster of up to 75 law firm owners, meeting monthly with each and delivering CEO-level operating experience on a fractional basis — bringing real operating experience to businesses that have never had it before. We handle 100% of business development; you focus entirely on the operating work itself.
If you've built your career as an in-house CEO inside a single company, this is a different rhythm — you'll be carrying multiple businesses at once rather than living inside one org chart. If you've already operated as a fractional executive or advised multiple business owners simultaneously, this will feel familiar, just with more support behind you and none of the sales burden.
Who Are We?
We are How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM), the leading fractional C-suite provider for solo and small law firms nationwide. We've made the Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Companies list every year since 2013, and we're on pace to double over the next 24 months. Our culture runs on personal responsibility, high performance, and zero corporate BS.
Our clients are solo and boutique law firm owners — typically under $500K revenue — who are excellent attorneys but overwhelmed as business operators. They don't need more advice. They need an experienced operator to help them build and run a real business behind the practice.
What You'll Actually Do
You'll partner directly with law firm owners to:
Build and execute business growth strategies
Improve operations, systems, and accountability
Strengthen cash flow, profitability, and financial performance
Support hiring, structure, and leadership development
Coach owners through key business decisions
Help firms transition from owner-dependent to scalable operations
This is hands-on executive leadership across multiple businesses, not traditional consulting — you're not handing off a strategy deck and walking away. You're in the operating details with each owner, week over week, until the business actually changes.
What this looks like in practice: an owner comes to you convinced their problem is 'we need more clients.' You dig in and find the real problem is that they have no intake process, no accountability structure for their one paralegal, and no idea what their actual profit margin is on a case. Growth isn't the fix — operational discipline is, and you're the one who has to build it with them, then hold them to it when it gets uncomfortable.
Who This Role Is For
This role is designed exclusively for experienced business operators. You have likely:
Owned or operated a business
Held full P&L responsibility or direct financial accountability
Built teams, systems, and organizational structure
Improved profitability, cash flow, and operational efficiency
Coached or influenced business owners or senior leaders
Ideally, your direct experience spans P&Ls from roughly $500K to $50M+ in revenue — comfortable with a business at the scrappy, first-real-structure stage as well as one wrestling with growth-stage complexity.
Typical backgrounds: CEO, President, General Manager, Founder, Owner, Operations Director, or EOS Integrator.
What Success Looks Like
Success is measured by business outcomes, not activity:
Increased profitability and cash flow
Stronger operational structure and accountability
Improved hiring and team performance
More consistent execution across the business
Reduced dependence on the owner for day-to-day operations
This Is NOT a Fit If
Your background is primarily sales, business development, or account management
You don't have experience with real P&L responsibility in the small-to-mid-size range
You prefer large corporate environments with heavy structure and support layers
You avoid direct or difficult conversations with business owners
You want a traditional internal executive role managing employees day-to-day
You don't have real operating experience running or scaling a business
