About the position
The GIS Coordinator conducts planning and surveillance activities related to the measurement and visualization of communicable diseases, health conditions, health resources/accessibility, and public health preparedness activities. The role involves engaging with stakeholders, managing GIS project deliverables, serving as a team leader, and utilizing data governance best practices. The position also requires providing geostatistical analysis, creating and maintaining visualizations and geospatial datasets, developing workflows, and building web-based applications. The GIS Coordinator will utilize appropriate GIS software and statistical packages, provide recommendations on data workflow methodology, and assist with logistical support when activated.
Responsibilities
• Regularly engage with stakeholders and partners at the GIO, other agencies, state/local health departments, private sector, etc.
• Manage GIS team project work deliverables and deadlines through the use of project management skills (communication, organization, metric tracking, etc.)
• Serve as team leader/point of contact for the Public Health Geographics team under the Data Products program in the Office of Data & Analytics
• Utilize data governance best practices, especially those related to GIS products
• Provide geostatistical analysis, measurements or reports related to communicable disease surveillance, outbreaks, disasters and public health preparedness activities.
• Create and maintain visualizations of data and statistical results.
• Creates and maintain accurate geospatial datasets.
• Develop and maintain workflows that integrate datasets and automate analytical methods.
• Develop web-based applications utilizing both configurable services and customized development.
• Utilizes appropriate geographic information system software and other statistical packages.
• Provides recommendations to supervisors and developers regarding data workflow methodology.
• Assists the Client when activated with logistical support.

Requirements
• Knowledge of geospatial concepts (2 Years)
• Knowledge of appropriate cartographic designs and solutions (2 Years)
• Work in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop software (2 Years)
• Work in ESRI ArcGIS Software as a Service platform and configurable applications (2 Years)
• Work with Python, ArcGIS API for Python, ArcPy, and other data science packages including web automation and scraping capabilities (2 Years)
• Work with JavaScript and ArcGIS JavaScript API (2 Years)
• Knowledge of SQL within Oracle and SQL Server platforms (2 Years)
• Managerial/supervisory experience within a health-related field, data/technology-related field, or in another comparable field (4 Years)
• Ability to engage with stakeholders and partners at the GIO, other agencies, state/local health departments, private sector, etc. (2 Years)
• Project management skills (communication, organization, metric tracking) (2 Years)
• Experience with data governance best practices (GIS-specific data governance) (2 Years)
Nice-to-haves
• Familiarity with how to utilize GeoAI (or ability to learn the skill)
• Experience with GeoAI (1 Year)
