The Commercial Lines Marketing Specialist plays a critical role in the insurance placement process, working with carrier partners to secure competitive coverage solutions and support the agency's sales and retention objectives.
Responsibilities
- Market new and renewal commercial insurance accounts to carrier partners, ensuring timely and effective placement of business
- Prepare, review, and submit complete insurance applications and supporting documentation to carriers
- Analyze client exposures, coverage needs, and underwriting requirements to identify appropriate carrier markets and insurance solutions
- Review carrier quotations, compare coverage, pricing, and terms, and recommend the most competitive and comprehensive options
- Negotiate pricing, coverage enhancements, and underwriting terms with carrier representatives to achieve favorable outcomes for clients
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with carrier underwriters and marketing representatives
- Maintain current knowledge of carrier appetites, underwriting guidelines, product offerings, and marketplace conditions
- Identify alternative markets and placement strategies for difficult-to-place or unique risks
- Communicate carrier feedback, underwriting concerns, and placement updates to producers and account management teams
- Partner with producers and account managers to gather underwriting information and ensure complete, accurate submissions
- Assist in developing client proposals by providing coverage comparisons, pricing analyses, and carrier recommendations
- Support new business opportunities by identifying marketing strategies that maximize competitiveness and coverage
- Work collaboratively to resolve coverage questions, underwriting issues, and policy discrepancies prior to binding coverage
- Ensure all marketing activities comply with agency procedures, carrier guidelines, and applicable insurance regulations
- Maintain accurate documentation of marketing activities, carrier communications, and placement decisions within the agency management system
- Continuously monitor industry trends, emerging coverages, and marketplace changes to enhance placement strategies and client solutions
Skills
- High school diploma required
- Current Indiana Property & Casualty License required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial lines marketing, account management, or underwriting
- Strong working knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, underwriting principles, and carrier guidelines
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate coverage options and recommend appropriate insurance solutions
- Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills with carriers and internal stakeholders
- Experience working with multiple insurance carriers and wholesale markets
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and OneDrive
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to pass a criminal background check, as permitted by law
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree desired
- Experience with agency management systems, preferably Applied Epic or AMS360
