They are seeking a driven Mechanical Design Engineer to develop next-generation wearable hardware by collaborating with a team of researchers and engineers to create innovative hardware concepts.
Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, build, and iterate electromechanical hardware for next-generation wearable systems
- Develop mechanical solutions that integrate sensors, flexible electronics, and soft materials into compact wearable form factors
- Design custom fixtures, tooling, and prototype hardware to accelerate experimentation and validation
- Partner closely with researchers and cross-functional engineering teams to rapidly evaluate concepts and translate research into robust hardware prototypes
- Work with manufacturing partners to produce prototype hardware, incorporating Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles while balancing speed, functionality, and experimental needs
- Perform mechanical characterization, testing, failure analysis, and root cause investigations to drive design improvements
- Support multiple rapid design-build-test cycles simultaneously in a fast-paced R&D environment
Skills
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
- 3+ years of experience designing and building hardware prototypes, preferably within wearable consumer electronics or related electromechanical products
- Experience developing mechanical systems from concept through functional prototype
- Experience designing components using CAD software such as Siemens NX (preferred), Creo, or SolidWorks
- Experience integrating PCBAs, flexible circuits (FPCs), sensors, or other electronic components into mechanical assemblies
- Hands-on prototyping experience utilizing machining, 3D printing, and rapid fabrication techniques
- Experience designing parts for injection molding and other high-volume manufacturing processes
- Strong understanding of mechanical fundamentals, tolerance analysis, material selection, and failure analysis
- Experience developing wearable consumer electronics or other body-worn devices
- Experience designing with elastomers, silicones, or other compliant materials
- Experience integrating haptic technologies, including LRAs, ERMs, voice coils, or similar electromechanical actuators
- Experience working with sensors or precision electromechanical assemblies
- Experience collaborating with overseas manufacturing partners to fabricate and iterate prototype hardware
- Experience with liquid injection molding, overmolding, or other soft-material manufacturing processes
- Experience working in multidisciplinary R&D organizations with rapidly evolving requirements
