The Senior Director of Client Financial Services oversees a team of financial analysts, ensuring high-quality financial reporting and advising on financial management best practices for various nonprofit clients.
Responsibilities
- Provide financial client service expertise to internal colleagues and a portfolio of external clients with complex financial activities by reviewing and analyzing programmatic financial statements, preparing forecasts and other financial customizations, and problem solving as other financial issues or questions arise, including addressing escalated client service concerns
- Review and sign the financial components of complex proposals and grant reports to private foundation funders
- Communicate complex financial information in a way that is understandable and accessible to non-financial stakeholders, including key client staff and board members
- Provide senior oversight for the preparation and presentation of trainings designed for internal staff and external clients on processes and best practices in nonprofit financial management
- Provide senior oversight for the maintenance of shared financial templates and other key resources of the client financial services team
- Oversee collaborative initiatives with non-financial colleagues across multiple departments to improve systems, processes, and the accuracy of financial reporting for clients
- Coach other client financial services team members on addressing complex and escalated financial situations and providing excellent service to clients
- Review the work of other client financial services team members and provide constructive feedback, with a focus on team member development
- Coordinate the development and completion of strategic objectives and priorities for the client financial services team
- Identify and recruit internal or external candidates to meet hiring needs for the client financial services team, based on skill, experience, or other relevant factors
- People manage the client financial services team and directly people manage 3-5 team members, including performance management and a focus on developing, motivating, and mentoring team members
- Oversee and manage performance accountabilities for the client financial services team, including setting individualized goals and managing to role expectations
- Convey, support, and as appropriate, translate firm messages from leadership to client financial services team members
- Proactively identify and coordinate learning opportunities for the client financial services team
- Manage culture and employee experiences for the client financial services team
- Oversee resourcing for the client financial services team, including budgeting and capacity management
Skills
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience with financial and grant reporting in a nonprofit or client service setting
- Expertise with nonprofit finance and accounting best practices and concepts
- Experience managing private foundation grants
- Experience overseeing teams, including team strategy and resourcing
- Financial management experience with fiscal sponsors
- Experience managing charitable investments
- Experience with training facilitation and coordination
- Experience presenting financial reporting and analysis to boards of directors
- Certified Public Accountancy (CPA), or equivalent
- Understanding of the rules governing 501(c)(3)'s and 501(c)(4)'s
- Advanced proficiency with Excel for data analysis and developing templates for client use
- Advanced ability to simplify and explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders, including key clients
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, including an ability to deliver clear, concise, and contextualized messaging to key clients
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing deadlines, including independently developing and managing workplans
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, client service environment, including project managing collaborative initiatives
- Excellence with problem solving, analytical skills, and attention to detail

- If a new hire is within proximity of our Washington, DC or Durham, NC offices, the expectation during onboarding (~90 days) is that you come into the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
