Marathon TS is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer for a contract role to build and evolve our consumer weather web applications with a strong emphasis on mobile web engineering. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver fast, responsive experiences including real-time forecasts, interactive maps, and AI-driven features.
Responsibilities
- Designing, building, and shipping features for TWCo web applications using React and Next.js, with a mobile-first approach throughout
- Collaborating with product managers, designers, and data teams to translate weather data and AI capabilities into intuitive, responsive user experiences
- Owning performance profiling and optimization targeting Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP) to ensure smooth rendering, fast load times, and reliable behavior across mobile networks and devices
- Building responsive, accessible UI components that work seamlessly across screen sizes, with mobile web as the primary target
- Integrating with backend APIs and real-time data streams for weather data, mapping, and analytics
- Contributing to frontend architecture decisions, code standards, and review practices that maintain quality across an actively developed codebase
Skills
- Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with strong command of React and Next.js
- Deep understanding of mobile web performance, responsive design patterns, touch interaction, and the constraints of low-bandwidth mobile environments
- Strong command of modern CSS — including layout, animation, and responsive design patterns
- Experience consuming REST APIs, handling real-time data, and managing complex client-side state with tools such as React Query, Zustand, or Redux
- Hands-on experience optimizing Core Web Vitals and measuring performance with tools like Lighthouse, WebPageTest, or Chrome DevTools
- Proficient in Git-based workflows and code collaboration via GitHub or similar platforms
- Strong problem-solving instincts and the ability to operate effectively in a self-directed, fast-paced, consumer-facing product environment
- Experience with geospatial data, mapping libraries (e.g., Mapbox, Google Maps), or data visualization
- Familiarity with AI feature integration in web products, such as personalization or LLM-backed experiences
- Experience with Tailwind CSS or a similar utility-first CSS framework
