Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Chexology is a global technology company headquartered in New York City, known for its innovative software that transforms the hospitality industry. They are seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer who will own customer-facing problems end-to-end, debug across the stack, and build and maintain integrations crucial to their product's success.
Responsibilities
- Own customer-impacting issues end-to-end. Debug across the stack: Rails, database, third-party integrations, iOS app. Fix the root cause, ship it, and follow up with our client success team or with the customer directly
- Build and maintain our integrations. Hotel property management, hotel operations, messaging, payment, and more. These are the connective tissue of our product. They're often quirky, and they're where a lot of our hardest problems live. You'll also help us stay ahead of vendor API changes/deprecations before they become emergencies
- Ship new functionality across the backend and web dashboard. We need a strong builder, not just a strong debugger
- Strengthen the codebase as you go. Reduce the tech debt and rough edges that generate support load in the first place. Better diagnostics, cleaner error handling, etc
- Work directly with customers when it helps. Hop on a call with a hotel, concert venue, or museum's IT team, talk through an integration setup, and represent engineering well
- Share the daytime support rotation. Everyone takes a turn being the designated first responder so the rest of the team gets protected focus time. As a senior hire, you'll carry a meaningful share—and during your first few months, a greater share, because handling real issues is the fastest way to learn how the whole system actually works. You’ll also deal with occasional off-hours maintenance & issue resolution
- Maintain quality standards. Thoughtful code review, pragmatic testing, and the judgment to know when to be careful and when to be fast
- Month 1: Onboard by doing. Shadow and then take support shifts, which will teach you our system, our customers, and our most common failure modes faster than anything else. Ship your first small fixes to production
- Month 2: Take ownership of a meaningful chunk of one of our integrations or features and lead a maintenance or quality-of-life project end-to-end, with a senior teammate as your buddy
- Month 3: Run support shifts solo, escalating rarely, and deliver a substantive feature or systemic-fix PR that visibly reduces a recurring source of customer pain
Skills
- 5+ years building and operating production web applications, with strong full-stack range and real depth on the backend
- Strong Ruby on Rails experience (or deep experience in a comparable framework plus enthusiasm to go deep on Rails quickly)
- Excellent systems-debugging instincts. You light up when handed a tricky cross-system bug, and you're relentless about finding the root cause
- Real integration experience: REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and the patience to work with flaky or poorly documented third-party systems. B2B SaaS that integrates with many vendors is ideal
- Comfortable working with relational databases (we use Aurora MySQL). Writing and optimizing queries, reasoning about data integrity and sync
- A customer-facing temperament. Willing and able to get on a call with a customer's technical staff, communicate clearly in writing, and represent engineering with professionalism
- Operationally mature. You've shipped hotfixes, and you understand that owning software means owning what happens after it ships
- Thrives with autonomy on a small, senior team. You turn ambiguous problems into plans without much hand-holding
- Exposure to the realities of small-team product engineering
- Familiarity with GraphQL
- Experience troubleshooting unconventional hardware issues in real-world, production environments
- Experience developing iOS/iPadOS apps in Swift
- Hospitality, operations, or point-of-sale integration experience
- Experience with telephony/SMS platforms (Twilio) and their international compliance quirks
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance with a $400 monthly employer contribution.
- 401(k) plan to support your long-term financial goals.
- Flexible PTO policy, plus holiday office closures, to recharge.
- Company-provided laptop and tools to help you do your best work.
- Enjoy virtual game days, seasonal get-togethers, and company gatherings that bring the team together to connect, unwind, and celebrate wins.
