They are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer ASME Lead to provide technical leadership for the design, analysis, certification, and code compliance of pressure-retaining components and reactor systems within a highly regulated engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation activities for ASME Section III Class HB pressure boundaries and Class HG internals
- Develop and maintain design specifications, calculations, load evaluations, and qualification reports in accordance with ASME Section III requirements
- Prepare, review, and certify Design Specifications (DS), Design Reports (DR), and engineering design packages for nuclear pressure-retaining components
- Perform or review finite element stress analyses and mechanical calculations to ensure design integrity and code compliance
- Utilize commercial stress analysis tools, including ANSYS, to evaluate complex engineered systems
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to establish design requirements and resolve technical challenges
- Support material selection, fabrication requirements, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for nuclear components
- Interface with quality organizations, third-party reviewers, Authorized Nuclear Inspectors, and regulatory stakeholders during audits, reviews, and certification activities
- Participate in engineering change processes, nonconformance evaluations, and corrective action development
- Maintain knowledge of ASME Section III revisions, NRC guidance, and applicable industry standards
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers across multiple disciplines
- Support licensing, compliance, and customer deliverables related to pressure-retaining equipment and reactor systems
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of equipment and component design experience (relevant Master's degree may substitute for two years of experience)
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III
- Demonstrated experience certifying Design Specifications and Design Reports for nuclear pressure-retaining components
- Deep understanding of ASME Section III, NQA-1 quality requirements, and applicable NRC regulations
- Experience performing finite element stress analysis and mechanical analysis for complex engineered systems
- Proficiency with commercial stress analysis tools, particularly ANSYS
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams in highly regulated environments
- Experience supporting advanced reactor, nuclear energy, or other highly regulated engineering programs
- Experience leading code compliance reviews and interacting with regulatory bodies or Authorized Nuclear Inspectors
- Knowledge of component qualification, structural integrity assessments, and lifecycle management for pressure-retaining equipment
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience supporting licensing activities and regulatory submittals
