About the Role Our client, a rapidly growing biotechnology firm, is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Data Scientist to spearhead their bioinformatics efforts in Madison, Wisconsin . This role is central to unlocking insights from complex biological datasets, including genomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics, to drive drug discovery and personalized medicine initiatives. You will lead a talented team of data scientists and bioinformaticians, mentor junior staff, and collaborate closely with research biologists and clinicians. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and implementation of data analysis pipelines for large-scale biological datasets. Develop and apply machine learning models and statistical methods to identify biomarkers, predict drug response, and uncover novel biological pathways. Mentor and manage a team of data scientists and bioinformaticians, providing technical guidance and career development support. Collaborate with internal research teams and external partners to define analytical strategies and interpret results. Ensure the quality, integrity, and reproducibility of data analysis. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bioinformatics, computational biology, and machine learning. Communicate complex findings clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Contribute to the development of data governance and management strategies. Requirements Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in data science, with a strong focus on bioinformatics or computational biology. Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team of data scientists or analysts. Expertise in analyzing large genomic, proteomic, or other omics datasets. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and relevant data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch). Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques. Experience with bioinformatic databases, tools, and platforms (e.g., GATK, BLAST, Ensembl). Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex results to diverse audiences. Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment in Madison, Wisconsin .
